Electrical Conduit Precautions
Cement & Wood Fiber Panel Decks
High Humidity Areas: Cement and wood fiber deck panels shall not be installed on buildings anticipated to have high relative humidities. Design Requirements: Cement and wood fiber roof decks shall be designed and installed according to the manufacturer's specifications. The designer shall also specify the storage, handling and installation of cement and wood fiber roof deck panels. The specifications shall require that the joints between adjacent panels be less than .25" and be grouted or filled with compatible material recommend by the manufacturer. Voids around bulb tees shall be grouted with material specified by the deck manufacturer. |
Vertical Alignment: Adjacent cement and wood fiber deck panels shall be aligned horizontally so as to provide a uniform substrate for the roof system. The maximum allowable difference in elevation between adjacent panels is .125". Uneven joints up to .125" maximum shall be grouted, with the grout feathered to a slope of .125" per foot. Weather and Temperature: Installation of cement and wood fiber roof decks shall be scheduled to coincide with weather and temperature conditions that allow for the correct installation of the panels. If panels are damaged or deteriorated from weather exposure, they shall be replaced prior to installation of the roof system. Additional Insulation & need for a Vapor Retarder: Even though cement and wood fiber panels provide some insulation value, additional insulation may be required for more thermal resistance. When additional insulation is specified, the dew point shall be calculated for the roof system, and a vapor retarder shall be correctly placed within the system. Insulation Board Attachment to Deck: Rigid insulation boards shall be mechanically attached to cement and wood fiber panel roof decks. Direct adhesion of insulation boards to wood fiber roof decks is prohibited. However, insulation may be adhered to a base sheet mechanically fastened to the deck. Specialty fasteners may be required for attachment of the base sheets. Designers shall consult with the deck and insulation manufacturers for the correct type and quantity of fasteners. Roof Membrane Attachment to Deck: If no rigid insulation is specified, mechanically attach a UK5 KraftFelt and a Fields base sheet to the deck before installing the BUR membrane so as to prevent possible asphalt drippage, and to reduce future stresses on the BUR membrane.
